On Sunday, May 17, we started our new sermon series called The Good and Beautiful God (based on the book by the same name, written by James Bryan Smith). The heart of this book and our series is teaching us how to become more like Jesus. We will do this by exploring four elements: adopting the narratives of Jesus, engaging in soul training exercises, participating in community, and being led by the Holy Spirit. Peter Benedict, one of our Pastors, explored these four elements and introduced us to our first soul training exercise: sleep. To hear Pete’s message, click one of the two buttons below.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Self-Control (Peter Benedict)
Where do you need God’s guidance in self-control? Is it in being kind to your friends and family? Is it in holding your tongue during discussions and debates? Is it in fighting your addiction? The good news is that God has the power to guide you in the fruit of self-control. Pete talked about the fruit of self-control, how God helped him grow in self-control, and what the Bible says about God’s power to help you grow in self-control in his message on Sunday, May 10. The Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Gentleness (Jeff Conner)
When you think of gentleness, what do you think of? A soft breeze on a summer day? A sleeping baby? What about the example Jeff used in his sermon: Vin Diesel and his muscle cars? On Sunday, one of our Pastors, Jeff Conner, explored the fruit of gentleness: what it looks like and how listening to the Spirit's guidance into gentleness can benefit all of us. The Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Goodness (Peter Benedict)
One of our Pastors, Peter Benedict, explored the fruit of goodness this Sunday. He shared with us that, first, God is good, and second, God can help us do good. We don't have to do this alone. We can partner with the Spirit and God will help us to do the good that needs to be done.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Patience (Peter Benedict)
We are currently in a season of waiting. Waiting for healing, waiting for decisions to be made, waiting to be together again…the list goes on. When we practice the fruit of patience, we are able to live in the present and, as Pete said in his sermon on Sunday, “find God’s grace and compassion even on hard days.” The good news is that God is always patient.
